Getting your ABC printed

If you want to create a poster, start talking to printers to understand the process before you are committed to a strict design. The major costs are in creating the film from which to print and the paper. Generally the more you print the cheaper the unit cost ­ each poster can be cheaper to sell though the overall cost is higher and the risk greater.

Get costings from 2 or 3 printers and ask how they would like to receive the art work. Decide how to pay for it ­ subscription beforehand, grants, borrowing, sponsorship, sales or personal risk. Seek grants before you are committed to expensive reprographics. Persuade local businesses, restaurants etc to buy framed copies.

Think about who should hold copyright - ensure you have the right to reprint your poster.
