Water Markets and River Festivals : Casebooks
Celebrating our local rivers is one way of raising awareness about their value and the importance of conserving water. In 2000 Common Ground instigated the first Water Market in Blandford Forum, Dorset. It brought together food and drink connected with the river/water such as watercress and beer, water conservation appliances for the house and garden, machines for creating power from water with firms and agencies involved with water conservation, wild life conservation, river recreation and the arts.
We have offered advice to succeeding water festivals such as the Parrett Catchment River Festival in Somerset, Hampshire Water Festival in Winchester and Dart Water Festival in Devon and are working to encourage new water markets and river festivals.
See the RIVERS PATH for information about THE WATER MARKET and festivals it has inspired.
