Orchards, Trees & Orchard Produce

Huntingdonshire

Huntingdonshire once had extensive apple and plum orchards, particularly around Colne and Bluntisham.

Huntingdonshire District Council is supporting the East of England Apples and Orchards Project by encouraging schools and communities to plant Community Orchards with local varieties, grown by the East of England Apples and orchards Project. Advice and fruit trees are offered free of charge. In 2005, two schools already have fruit trees, and the children keep a log of how they are progressing. The Autumn and Winter of 2005 will see more planting elsewhere - please contact the District Council if you represent a school or community group interested in creating a community orchard in Huntingdonshire. For more information contact Bridget Halford, Countryside Ranger and Tree Warden Co-ordinator, on 07752 188421 or bridget.halford[at]huntsdc.gov.uk

We are still researching the orchards, produce, nurseries and recipes of Huntingdonshire. Can you help? Please let us know if you are aware of local orchards, varieties, or dishes, good products and the places that sell them : email info [at] commonground.org.uk
